Mary Levine Owens, 88, of Pompano Beach, Fla., (and longtime Waterville resident) died peacefully on October 13, 2014, with her son Matthew and granddaughter Nicole by her side. Born in Fairfield of G. Prescott and Hazel Robinson Wood, she spent her young years on the family farm in Fairfield, Maine. She married Aaron Levine, a neighbor, and eventually they moved to Waterville, where Mary raised her children and Aaron became a successful businessman and well-known political figure, serving two terms in the Maine state Senate. After her children were grown, Mary attended Colby College and also received her pilot’s licence, which she retained until health issues caused her to stop flying. Like everything else she did, Mary excelled at these tasks.
Preceded Mary in death, were her son, Paul “Fivey” Levine; her father, G. Prescott Wood; her mother, Hazel Robinson Wood; her husband, Aaron; her oldest grandson, Michael; her youngest son, Steven; and two two youngest sisters, Barbara Aley Wade and Ima Fales.
Mary is survived by her husband, Wolf Owens, of Pompano Beach, Fla.; son Matthew Levine, of Winslow; and daughter Chaya Levine, of Phoenix, Ariz. In addition Mary left her precious grandchildren: granddaughters Rebecca, Zhene, Nicole, Alysha, and Rachel; and her surviving grandson Jesse; as well as her six great-grandchildren. Also surviving, her sister, Lilla Julia, and her brother, Harvey “Pete” Wood, both of Fairfield.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15 at 3 p.m. at The Levey Chapel, 471 Deering Ave., Portland, with interment to follow at the nearby Mt. Sinai Cemetery on Hicks St., off Warren Ave., in Portland.
