LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Sam was born and raised in Portland on Munjoy Hill.
After leaving to serve as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy during WWII, he received a business degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. Upon graduating, he settled in New York City, where he spent his entire career as an executive with Queensboro Farm Products, which supplied dairy products to most of the restaurants and bodegas in the city.
He was an avid and skilled golfer and upon retiring, split his time between the links and his many volunteer activities, including The Boys and Girls Cub of Queens, Central Synagogue’s homeless breakfast program, and Beth Israel Hospital.
Sam is survived by his loving daughter, Lisa Kaminir, son-in-law Kevin Kelley, and granddaughter Arden Kelley, who live in Los Angeles.
A funeral service will be held at The Levey Chapel, 471 Deering Ave. in Portland on Friday, Nov. 30 at 1 pm. Interment in Temple Beth El Cemetery will follow the service. Arrangements by Portland Jewish Funeral Home.
