Marjorie Rachel (Shorr) Sandler passed away on August 18, 2022.
Born December 8, 1941 in Boston, Marjorie was the daughter of Bernice (Simon) Shorr and Morris Shorr. She attended Woonsocket High School in Rhode Island, and graduated from Boston University. After graduation she worked as an Administrative Assistant at UNIVAC in Boston.
Marjorie married Herbert Sandler in 1968 and the moved to Maine soon after to join the family business (Sandler Bros). In Portland Marjorie was active in many charitable organizations, donating her time and money to support them. She also supported her husband as he grew his business.
Marjorie’s joys were her family and friends. She loved entertaining at her homes in Portland, ME and Longboat Key, FL. She also traveled extensively. She particularly enjoyed trips to Sweden, where she visited with her son-in-law’s family. But her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow up. She rarely missed any sporting events, school activities, or important milestones in their lives.
Later in life, after her husband’s passing, she reunited with an old friend from Boston University, Herbert Strachman, and they spent the last 11 years together, enjoying life and each other.
Marjorie was predeceased by her parents and her husband. Along with Herbert Strachman, she leaves behind her beloved children, Mark Sandler and Michelle Paulsson and husband Anders; her grandchildren Olivia, Ella, Chase and Amelia Paullson, and Trevor and Erik Sandler. Her brother David Shorr also survives her, along with many cousins and life long friends. As one friend wrote “there is no one whose life Marge touched that will not miss her”.
The funeral will be held graveside on Thursday, August 25th at 11 AM at Temple Beth El Memorial Park, 1 Johnson Road, Portland ME. All family and friends are welcome.
