Cynthia “Cindy” Sprince Lerman, 70
PORTLAND – Cynthia “Cindy” Sprince Lerman, died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at the Gosnell Memorial Hos-pice House, on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, in Scarborough, at the age of 70, after a valiant battle with liver disease.
Cindy was born on Jan. 15, 1948, in Portland, to Martin and Ruth Sprince. She graduated from Deering High School in 1966, and Simmons College in 1970 with a degree in education.
She taught at Lunt Elementary School in Falmouth as a third-grade teacher, before changing to a career in banking, where she stayed for 20 years. Then she worked for WEX Inc., and retired in December 2016.
Cindy was an avid Maine Red Claws basketball fan. She was a season ticket holder since the inception of the team in 2009. She was known to the team and staff as “Nana,” and was loved by all of them. She was famous for making chocolate chip cookies for the team and staff.
Cindy is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Stephen Lerman; son, Joshua Lerman, and his wife, Allison Lerman; son, Scott Lerman; grandchildren, Teddy, Rachel and Trevor Lerman; siblings, Elliot Sprince and Jody Denton; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank Gosnell Memorial Hospice House and the staff of the IPace Floor at Maine Medical Center for their exceptional care of Cindy and the family.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 29, 11 a.m., at Temple Beth El, 400 Deering Ave., Portland. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery on Hicks Street, Portland. The Period of Mourning will be held at 95 Hamblet Ave., Portland, on Thursday evening, March 29, and Friday afternoon, March 30. Arrangements are by Portland Jewish Funeral Home.
