Florence Romanow, 89
PORTLAND – Florence Ann Romanow, 89, of Portland, passed away April 2, 2018, after a long struggle with the effects of Alzheimer’s.
She passed away peacefully with her husband of 70 years, Harold, by her side, along with her family and the caring and sensitive staff of Falmouth by the Sea.
Florence was born in Syracuse, N.Y. on Oct. 24, 1928, the daughter of Katie and Stephen Levine. She met Harold in Portland, and married on Dec. 19, 1948.
May Florence simply be remembered as a woman who deeply loved and cared for her family. She was accepting and welcoming of all whom she met, and gracious to those who crossed her path.
The following describes what she meant to those who knew her:
“Sometimes we need someone to simply be there. Not to fix anything, or to do anything
in particular. But, just to let us feel that we are cared for,
supported, and loved.”
We all were truly blessed to have Florence in our lives.
Florence is survived by her husband, Harold; her daughter Judith Romanow and her partner Deb Deneen of Rockford, Mich., her son Richard Romanow and his wife Anita of Portland; as well as four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Florence was predeceased by her son, Stephen J. Romanow.
A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, April 4, at 12:30, at the Jewish Funeral home, The Levey Chapel at 471 Deering Ave. in Portland. A reception will be held at Falmouth by the Sea, 191 Foreside Rd, Falmouth, after interment at Mt Carmel Cemetery, Hicks Street in Portland. Rabbi Gary Berenson will be officiating.
A special thanks to the caring and professional staff at Falmouth by the Sea, who have provided both Florence and Harold exceptional care. Our thanks go to Dr. Gary Green and Pam, who cared for Florence, as well as Harold for many years.
