Peter Mark Lewis of Old Orchard Beach, son of David and Elaine Lewis, passed away on July 2nd, after a difficult struggle with pancreatic cancer. Peter graduated from Deering High School and Brandeis University and was the embodiment of Proverbs 22:1; “A good name is more desirable than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.”
Peter lived a simple life, working initially for the family business on the waterfront and later for LL Bean. He loved hiking in the White Mountains, experiencing nature, and spending time with his wide circle of friends and family. An avid fan of the Three Stooges, Peter never lost his sense of humor. When discussing finances he would say, “Don’t worry, I’m taking it with me.”
Peter felt a strong connection to Israel and traveled there more than twenty times. While living in Old Orchard Beach, he was an active leader in the local synagogue, and attended Chabad House in Portland. Through his many months of discomfort and pain, his faith gave him strength.
Peter is survived by his parents, sister Jennifer Snyder (Michael), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at Temple Beth El in Portland on July 5th, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a week of mourning at 11 Granite St Scarborough, 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:30-8:00 p.m.
