Rebecca Delois

February 1 1952 - September 30, 2024

Portland – Rebecca “Becky” Abelon DeLois, of Portland, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a brief battle with Alzheimer’s on September 30, 2024. She was born in Boothbay Harbor, Maine on ebruary 1, 1952, the third child of Dr. Harry and Louise Abelon.

Upon graduation from Hofstra University, Becky married Joseph DeLois in 1975. They were married for 49 years and had three children, Nathan, Anthony and Jacob.

Becky celebrated life every day. She was warm, kind and never lost her sense of humor, and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Her generosity knew no bounds; she selflessly gave of her time and energy to myriad causes, including Camp Seeds of Peace, the Center for Grieving Children, and as an active member of the Temple Beth El community.

She was a lifelong learner, continuously studying and dedicating herself to issues that interested her, including becoming a Bat Mitzvah student in her late 50s. Her focus and drive were only matched by her incredible smile and silly disposition. And her sweet tooth.

Becky is survived by her husband, Joe their children and daughters-in-law, Elizabeth and Melissa; her grandchildren, Asher, Lucy, Jackson and June; her brother Dean Abelon and sister-in-law Nancy Abelon, and many in-laws and nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday, October 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Beth El at 400 Deering Avenue, Portland, Maine. A graveside service followed at Temple Beth El Memorial Park at 1 Johnson Road in Portland.
